Here are the results of my experimental design final. Pieces from seven pairs of jeans and one pair of canvas Carhartt pants, all made in the USA, make up this denim jacket.
All the materials (except for thread and patches) were sourced from the Goodwill bins. I estimate it took about 30 hours to complete. Twelve hours were spent just on the initial orientation of the torso. The patches were sourced at a local military surplus store.
I’m pretty happy with the results. I’ve got another stack of rescued American made denim that’s ready for similar project.
In short, I got an “A” in the class.

New York Fashion Week is in full swing and legend of the catwalk Naomi Campbell organized a Fashion for Relief show as a benefit to the relief efforts in Haiti. With the unfortunate loss of Alexander McQueen yesterday, Naomi orchestrated a tribute to the late famed designer as her and seven other models took to the runway all wearing trademark McQueen ensembles. You can see video of the entire Fashion for Relief show here, which includes the McQueen tribute walk. I thought it was a very classy way to pay respects to McQueen’s recent passing.
